We encourage regular attenders of Providence Baptist Church to become official members of the church. Church membership is a form of covenant relationship. Church members commit to honoring God with their faithful attendance, financial giving, spiritual discipleship, and service to the church and its other members. The rest of the church, on the other hand, commits to encouraging and assisting new members in their spiritual development, striving to help them meet their needs, praying for them, and so on.
In addition to baptism by immersion, we require that prospective members of Providence Baptist Church complete a two-week course of study called Starting Point that provides a high-level overview of the church. Attendees will learn about the history of the church and the general theological beliefs we affirm, and will be introduced to the current ministries and service opportunities provided by the church.
Starting Point is offered several times throughout the course of the year. The first session typically coincides with a "Pastor's Luncheon", a catered meal held after Sunday's worship services and offered to guests who are interested in learning more about the church directly from our senior pastor. A subsequent session is generally held the next two Sundays. The curriculum is designed to be experienced in small groups and is led by one of our staff members.
